CHCSS00114 Entry into Care Roles Skill Set

Course Overview

This skill set addresses the skills and knowledge required to provide entry level support for basic client care for a range of roles and purposes required within the aged care and disability support sectors. The support provided in client care will be predominantly non-direct, with some basic direct client care, in order to maintain the safety of both the learner and client in care.

Entry Requirement

  • Student’s are required to undertake Pre-training Review process and LLN test before being offered an entry in the course.

  • Student’s will be required to have Police Check ready for work placement.

  • Students are expected to possess ACSF Level 3 in all aspects.

Who is eligible for skill sets?

A person is eligible for skill sets if they meet the normal Skills First eligibility criteria, but with two exceptions:

  • upskilling’ does not apply to skill sets (Clause 2.4(a) Schedule 1)

  • two at level in a lifetime’ does not apply to skill sets (Clause 2.5(d) Schedule 1).

Can a person enroll in more than one Skill set?

  • Yes, but no more than two skill sets at a time and to a maximum of two in a calendar year.

  • The ‘two at a time’ limit is all inclusive across skill sets and full qualifications. For example, a student cannot undertake two skill sets and one full qualification at the same time.

Target Group

This skill set is for individuals who use introductory care practices to support fully qualified carers within an aged care or disability support environment. Candidates who complete this skill set would be equipped with the skills and knowledge required to undertake job tasks to support fully qualified carers, such as making beds, providing assistance to maintain a clean environment and communicating with carers as part of the support service.

Practical Work Placement

Students undertaking this skill set are required to undertake practical placement in order to achieved the competency. Students are expected to spend eight hours on practical placement. Student who are not able to competently demonstrate skills may be required to undertake further hours of work placement.

Pathways

The units provide credit towards the Certificate III in Individual Support and other qualifications that allow for selection of these units.

Licensing/Regulatory Information

The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand standards and industry codes of practice.

​

Skill Set Requirements

This skill set responds to an industry need as a result of COVID-19 and is time limited to the pandemic and recovery phase. This skill set is valid until 30 June 2021, with a mid-point review in December 2020. It may be extended by quarterly intervals if required, to align with the course of the COVID-19 pandemic and recovery phase.
There are modified assessment arrangements for units of competency in this skill set.

Face to face / online depending upon restriction levels.

Expected Duration

This program is expected to be completed over a period of eight weeks. Delivery will comprise of four week with seven hours per week (two days a week and 3-1/2 hours per day).
Student are expended to spend 28 hours of face to face studies and eight hours of Practical placements. Home study, research and assessment timings may vary depending upon individual student Language, Literacy and Numeracy level.
Expected duration may vary owing to individual LLN levels of the students, their previous knowledge, experience etc.

• Student are required to have a valid Health Care Card or other Concession Card to be eligible for concession.
• Students enrolling in Job Trainer Program will be eligible for a fee waiver, if they meet all the requirements of Job Trainer Program.

Award

Students will be issued Statement of attainment for these three units within 30 days of achievement of competency being part of CHCSS00114 Entry into Care Roles Skill Set.

Assessment Requirements

Student must demonstrate competency in all aspects of the assessment to achieve a competency. We use different methods of assessment and includes written questions, workplace tasks, project(s) and case studies.
