HLTAID003 Provide First Aid

 
Introduction

This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty. This unit stands alone however incorporate the requirements of HLTAID001- Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation and HLTAID002 - Provide basic emergency life support.
The unit applies to all workers who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.

Course Duration

This Unit of competency will be delivered as:


Students with Prior First Aid Knowledge: Unit of competency will be delivered in 4 hours. Workbook assessment questions are to be answered by students individually at their own time. Student my need to refer to additional reading to answer the questions. Total volume of learning is expected to be 16 hours.


Beginners: Unit of competency will be delivered in 6 hours. Workbook assessment questions are to be answered by students individually at their own time. Student my need to refer to additional reading to answer the questions. Total volume of learning is expected to be 20 hours.

Vocational Outcomes

The purpose of this unit is to provide students with the skills that they need to be successful in maintaining their work place requirements and/or to help them start work or continue their work in the industry.
Successful completion of this competency may qualify students as a first aid officer or delegate in their workplace, or they may use these skill in their personal life / commitments.

Entry Requirements

There are no specific entry requirements or pre-requisites but it is recommended that participants have the foundation skills such as language, literacy and numeracy that are essential to understand basic instructions and to convey the same to emergency services or to the workplace supervisor. There is no age limit for this course; however, it is recommended that student may have attained the age of 18 years prior to or at the time of enrolment. Resultantly physical attributes may affect student’s ability to successfully complete the training and assessment.

Delivery and Assessment

We offer students classroom (face-to-face) delivery. Methods of Assessments may include but are not limited to: written questions, role plays and demonstrations.


Power Point Presentations - The trainer will deliver a presentation in class room setting covering all knowledge and skills aspects of the unit of competency. Students can ask related questions during the presentation.


Interactive Discussions - Various scenarios will be presented for reading and discussion in the class. Students will have the opportunity to participate in discussions in the case studies and propose potential solutions to the issues.


Assessments - Questions contained in the Student’s Assessment Workbook will be answered by students individually at the end of the session before handing over the workbook to the trainer.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

We have a simple but methodical RPL process, which is outlined in detail on the Policy on Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). Prospective students may access further information on RPL through Student Handbook prior to enrolment and are encouraged to apply if they believe that they may be eligible.
Current industry standards state this course must be updated every 3 years with the CPR component being updated every 12 months.
